This post will not lift you up. It is not intended to lift you up. I hope you will read this through to the end and think deeply, hard about the message.
Like most citizens, I watched parts of the inauguration yesterday and the singers I loved perform at the inaugural ball. I'm sorry, but one can't help feel the enormity of "worship" the media and those ideologically aligned with our President direct toward him and encourage the masses to do as well. To hear Alicia Keys sing from her heart, "Obama's on Fire......Obama's on Fire....." dumbfounded me - I couldn't imagine the left accepting a song at the inauguration of President Bush interchanging the word "Bush is on Fire!" Republicans would have been laughed out of town. Really?
So it irritated the heck out of me that I couldn't get that refrain out of my head...all...day...long.... I sat down on the toilet singing, "Obama's on Fire!" when my eyes fell to January 22nd in a devotional my daughter had read earlier and left opened on my "light" reading stand.
It was from Amos 7:1-9, but I only made it through the first words.
"The Lord God was calling for a judgment by fire...."
Those words jumped out at me as I contemplated that - just yesterday, our President took the public oath of office on Martin Luther King Day - aligning himself with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President Abraham Lincoln as the great liberator, the political voice for the poor and the downtrodden.
But today God spoke (not audibly, but it couldn't have been any louder!) and said, "Oh yeah, well today is the 40th anniversary of the day your nation deemed it acceptable...read that - good...to murder the most helpless of all - the little children that I said should come unto me." How many is it now? 50,000,000 babies and rising. And we as a society endorse it, encourage it, and yet cry, "FOUL!" when babies are slaughtered in the the sanctuary of the school yard, but hide the sin in the sanctuary of the womb and say, "No, don't show us the babies torn limb by limb - it's not fair to the mother (and we don't want to face our sin)!" Can you imagine if we had to see everyday the dismembered bodies of these children? Maybe not just the mothers should have to see the ultrasound prior to aborting their child, but our society should see the aftereffects 24/7 on every network or cable news. It's blatant hypocrisy, absolute ignorance - it's calling good evil and evil good. But President Obama is not the source, we are. One baby at a time. And it wasn't a gun or a mentally deranged individual that took their lives. It's you, it's me.
And God is crying, "FOUL!"
Patrick Henry said, "Give me liberty or give me death." There's only two choices - liberty or death -and we've made the choice for the innocents in the womb. Death. God says, Life. Which will we choose going forward.
Maybe we should pay attention to the "Bush" that was on fire, and I'm not talking about George W.
